When delivering 100 mechanical, electrical and rail systems design packages for the largest public transport infrastructure project in Victoria’s history, a spreadsheet reporting system is needed that goes beyond traditional programs.

That was the challenge facing Michael Taylor, CYP Design & Construction’s M&E and Rail Systems Technical Manager responsible for leading a team of 70 designers delivering 100 packages of work, comprising almost 18,000 activities.

With a significant resource base and a complex program to complete, Michael required a solution that would provide him with timely and accurate reporting so that he could easily and efficiently manage and control performance of activity and expenditure.

Having worked with the team at E7 on the Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) programme, Michael turned to a solution that was tried and tested and would allow him to deliver.

Having worked with the team at E7 before, I know the power that their software brings to the ability to manage the performance of a project against schedule and cost in real-time.

With E7, we’re able to have 70 people in the spreadsheet entering time and progress at the same time. That’s something that we can’t do with other programs.

I can also run reports and analyse data at the click of a button and ensure that we are on track against our program and metrics.

Over the coming 12 months, E7 will provide Michael with a clear line of sight on every aspect of the performance and productivity of his design team as they deliver their core part of one of Australia’s mega projects.

About the Project

The Metro Tunnel Project in Melbourne is building twin nine-kilometre rail tunnels and five new underground stations at North Melbourne (near Arden Street), Parkville, State Library at the northern end of Swanston Street, Town Hall at the southern end of Swanston Street and Anzac at St Kilda Road.

The biggest ever public transport infrastructure project in Victoria’s history, it will transform the way people move around Melbourne and improve access to key landmarks and destinations.

CYP Design & Construction (CYP D&C) – a joint venture comprising Lendlease, John Holland and Bouygues Construction – is delivering the Tunnels and Stations works package for the Metro Tunnel Project.

E7 is ideally suited to any project that has resources and tasks that require agreement, review or amendment. That is the natural part of the design process, and E7 clearly and easily enables every stage of a project, from resource allocation and use to task completion and revision to be captured, analysed and evaluated instantly.
